Ad Club

The University of Georgia Ad Club, supported by the national American Advertising Federation, serves university students in advertising and related majors. All advertising majors are encouraged to join.

The Ad Club undertakes activities designed to expand members' knowledge of advertising, to provide crucial contacts in the advertising profession and to help members gain experience in the field.

The group holds bimonthly speaker meetings with guests from ad agencies, marketing firms and media and research companies who speak on such topics as trends in advertising, what to expect from an advertising career and how to conduct a job search. The Ad Club meets every other Tuesday in the Student Learning Center, Room 348, at 7:30 p.m. Dinner with the featured speaker is held at 5:30 p.m.

Georgia Gameday

Georgia Gameday is a weekly, 30-minute, student-run sports-analysis program featuring University of Georgia football. It airs on local cable Channel 15 during football season, reaching 66,000 households in Clarke and Oconee counties and Northeast Georgia. For home games, the program airs live at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. Away games air live the Friday evening prior to the game.

Georgia Gameday is a magazine-style program with a sports palate. It strives to relate football and its relevance to a public that consists of both experts and lay-people with regard to the world of Georgia football.

IABC @ UGA is one of Grady College's newest student organizations. A student chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, we are affiliated with the IABC/Atlanta chapter which represents approximately 350 professional communicators in the metropolitan Atlanta area.

Members of IABC/Atlanta include public relations and communication professionals from Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, communication agencies, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, as well as freelance writers and consultants.

Media Managment Club
Members of the Media Management Club learn how publishers and editors strengthen their publications to meet print and electronic competition. Speakers at the club's dinner meetings have included William S. Morris III, chairman and chief executive officer of Morris Communications Corp., Ron Martin, editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and executives of Knight Ridder, Gannett, The New York Times, Dow Jones and other leading companies.

The club also visits media companies to discuss management strategy and has been hosted by executives of Cox Newspapers, publisher of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution; Knight Ridder, Morris and Gannett. Jackets and ties are required for men and equivalent attire for women at the Management Club's periodic dinner meetings....


National Association Of Black Journalists

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is a professional media organization that monitors and sensitizes the media to issues of diversity, social justice and equity.

The UGA chapter of the NABJ is comprised of students interested in journalism and mass communication. The primary purpose of NABJ is to bring about a union of black journalists dedicated to truth and excellence in the news and full equality in the media industry in order:

*To support UGA's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

National Press Photographer`s Association
The National Press Photographer's Association is dedicated to advancing photographic journalism. Members include still and television photographers, editors and students. The NPPA organizes educational events, including the annual Electronic Photojournalism Workshop and a traveling photojournalism seminar called the Flying Short Course. NPPA announces internships and jobs through an electronic database.

Each year, members of the NPPA student chapter and other photojournalism students attend the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar and the Southern Short Course in News Photography....


Public Relations Student Society (PRSSA)

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) aims to cultivate mutually advantageous relationships between students and professionals. Its mission is to serve members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities. In doing so, PRSSA aids in developing highly qualified and well-prepared professionals.

During the past few years, the UGA PRSSA chapter has won many awards for its achievements including Best Chapter and Best Student Firm at the annual PRSSA National Conference. In 2007, PRSSA members won the prestigious Bateman Case Study Competition and have placed in the top three or received an honorable mention several times in years past.

Society Of Professional Journalists (SPJ)

Speakers at the monthly meeting of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) explain the governor's tax proposals, dissect the latest water pollution bill, help students write r?sum?s and outline minority hiring in the newsroom.

The UGA chapter of SPJ is the oldest chapter in the Southeast. The SPJ is the oldest and largest professional organization for American journalists.

SPJ promotes open government and high ethical and professional standards in a free press. SPJ is open to journalism and pre-journalism majors, print or broadcast. The chapter is advised by Dr. Barry Hollander. It was recognized in 1997 as the outstanding chapter in the Southeast....

The Red & Black newspaper is the daily chronicle of news and events at UGA. Thousands of journalism students published their first bylined story in The Red & Black, which printed its first edition in 1893.

Now independent from the university, The Red & Black, with a circulation of 16,000, is the main source of university news for students and an essential training ground for journalism and advertising students.

Editorial and advertising departments have won numerous national awards. A staff of more than 75, most of them students, produce a paper five days a week. Students work with up-to-date software for writing, pagination and Internet production....
