Television Studies

Research Interests
His fields of special interest include media and cultural studies, cultural policy studies, media criticism, and creative writing for film and television.

Experience
He has taught at colleges and universities in Iowa, Michigan, Maryland, and at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of TV: The Most Popular Art, co-author (with Robert S. Alley), of The Producer's Medium, and editor of six editions of Television: The Critical View. He is also editor of The Museum of Broadcast Communications Encyclopedia of Television, a three-volume, 2,000 page reference work containing over 1,000 essays on television related topics.

Miscellaneous
In July of 2001, Dr. Newcomb began work as Director of Peabody Awards program. From 1990-95 he served as a member of the Peabody Board, the group responsible for selecting Peabody Award Winners.
