Special Guests Appearing at the Festival

Actresses Louise Fletcher, Patricia Neal and Jane Powell, director Maximilian Schell, as well as Stephen Bogart, Pia Lindstrom and Rory Flynn, will be special guests at the first annual Robert Osborne's Classic Film Festival, Jan. 27-30, 2005, at the Classic Center in Athens.

Louise Fletcher starred as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, a role that won her an Academy Award. The role also earned her the distinction of the fifth greatest movie villain of all time, according to the American Film Institute. Fletcher was born in Birmingham, Ala., and graduated from the University of North Carolina. Her other credits include Thieves Like Us, The Cheap Detective, Exorcist II, Firestarter, and, on television, Picket Fences and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Patricia Neal won an Oscar for her performance as Alma, the housekeeper in Hud, with Paul Newman. A graduate of Northwestern University, her other credits include The Fountainhead, The Breaking Point, The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Subject Was Roses.

Jane Powell, who starred in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, began her career at an early age, singing and dancing in musicals. She appeared in her first film at age 15. Among her films are Royal Wedding, Rich, Young, and Pretty, Small Town Girl, Three Sailors and a Girl, Hit the Deck, and The Girl Most Likely.

Maximilian Schell, the Austrian-born actor, directed Marlene, a documentary on the life of the legendary Marlene Dietrich, in 1984. His credits as an actor span the decades and include The Young Lions, Judgment at Nuremburg, Topkapi, Counterpoint, The Man in the Glass Booth, A Bridge Too Far, Cross of Iron, Julia, and A Far Off Place. He produced and directed The Castle, the Academy Award-nominated The Pedestrian, and a documentary on his sister, the actress Maria Schell, with whom he costarred in The Odessa File.

Other special guests include Stephen Bogart, son of Humphrey Bogart (Casablanca), Pia Lindstrom, daughter of Ingrid Bergman (Casablanca), and Rory Flynn, daughter of Errol Flynn (The Adventures of Robin Hood).

Guests will appear on stage after the screenings of their films for a candid discussion with host Osborne and members of the audience. Those guests present on Friday morning will appear on a panel discussion with Osborne titled “They Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To.” The panel discussion is free and open to all and will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Classic Center. Those guests present after the screening of Casablanca on Sunday afternoon may attend the closing reception in the Classic Center. Tickets for the reception are available at the Classic Center box office.

The movie line-up for festival includes The Adventures of Robin Hood, Casablanca, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Hud, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Marlene, Cinema Paradiso and Triplets of Belleville.
