Students interested in the Grady College's newest — and most affordable — study abroad option are encouraged to attend an informational session on an upcoming travel writing program at 4 p.m. on Oct. 16 in the Drewy Room. The program, which has been in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the past two years, is moving to Prague in the Czech Republic next year.
"Join us in Maymester 2013 for this intensive, exhilarating immersion in one of Europe's most historic, and now dynamic, capitals," said John F. Greenman, the Journalism professor who directs the program.
Participants will have multiple opportunities to write about and photograph one of Europe's most beautiful cities, one that's transformed itself since the Velvet Revolution toppled its communist government just two decades ago.
Students will devote time to learning the craft of travel writing in a small class with individual attention. They'll also work to build a comprehensive multimedia portfolio and will be able to spend free time sightseeing in Prague.
The three-hour course will be taught by Greenman, a seasoned journalist, traveler, and author of Introduction to Travel Journalism: On the Road with Serious Intent. Greenman, as well as guest faculty who are Prague-based foreign correspondents, will provide the guidance and support throughout the program.
The estimated cost of the program is $2,900, as well as airfare, tuition and most meals. Additionally, there will be optional reporting trips to Berlin, Warsaw and Vienna. The deadline to apply is Dec. 7.
