From writing tweets to preparing social media strategies, Public Relations and Psychology major Kristy Lyons utilized her skills as a social media intern at MTV in New York City this summer.

Lyons gained invaluable experience while working at MTV. Her day-to-day tasks included writing Facebook posts and tweets for MTV's social media platforms, typically reaching more than 50 million people. She also assisted in live streaming during the premieres of various television episodes, including "The Real World: St. Thomas."

"I was able to contribute ideas in the development of social strategies for new shows that will be coming to MTV in the near future," Lyons said. "Every week, I prepared presentations for senior vice presidents outlining impressions, sentiment and performance of the MTV original scripted series 'Awkward.'"

Lyons also worked on a summer-long project called #RetroMTV, which she sites as the most rewarding aspect of her internship. #RetroMTV is a summer programming block in which MTV shows episodes of "Laguna Beach," "The Hills" and "Daria." While working on #RetroMTV, Lyons was responsible for designing the social media plan and executing social strategy. As a result, #RetroMTV became a worldwide trending topic on multiple occasions.
