A weekly series of Grady students highlighted for their exciting and innovative internship opportunities. Written by Yarbrough-Grady intern Paula Bryant.

As an editorial intern at Money, Elayna Rose, a senior majoring in magazines, held her fair share of pivotal editorial responsibilities during the summer. From fact checking to writing, Rose made the most of her time as an intern, leaving after getting her byline in both the magazine and website.

Rose, who got the opportunity at Money thanks to an internship through the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), said the experience gave her a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the production of a magazine. She worked on several projects, including the “Best Places to Live in America,” which was the cover story of Money’s September issue.

“I never once felt like an intern,” Rose said.  “That made it hard to leave.”

In addition to her day-to-day tasks, Rose participated in various ASME events and activities that provided industry information outside of the workplace, including key networking opportunities and career guidance from former interns. She also served as a reverse digital mentor for an executive at Time Inc. — an opportunity that allowed her to learn more about the business side of the company.

After a successful summer at Money, Rose attributed her success to Grady College.

“I have to give credit to my Grady classes and especially my time at Ugazine,” Rose said. “I had some good prior magazine experience to draw on, which made settling into my responsibilities at Money a lot easier.”

Rose plans to move to New York City after graduating in December to pursue a career in magazines.
