2008 Georgia Journalism Academy

“The Grady Grid Iron” is a rousing twenty-minute sports feature produced by the 2008 Georgia Journalism Academy’s broadcast writing, reporting, and news photography classes. Anchored, edited, and produced by the students with the help of Grady faculty, the feature includes energetic interviews and sports footage.

Interviewing students around Herty Field, the first story is about UGA football trivia. The girls go against the boys in their attempts to ask questions about the Georgia football mascot and the victory bell.

The second story goes downtown and round the heart of campus to find out about Georgia Bulldog fans. Respondents on the street talk about tailgating and how to “Call the Dawgs.”

With numerous championships to boast of, the Academy students dig deeper with their third story. They cover the Gym Dawgs, the baseball team, and the football team, as they reveal impressive score records.

The fourth story takes a look at well-established businesses in Athens. Talking to workers and owners of different establishments, the Academy students ask how their business is affected by the Georgia football season.

To tie up the feature, the Academy students interview UGA students about their expectations for the future. Plans for the Grady College in particular are discussed in a special conference with Dean E. Culpepper Clark.
