Open Mic with Dean Cully

Keeping in line with his mission to develop and maintain a relationship with the student body, Grady College Dean E. Culpepper "Cully" Clark, has agreed to take part in an interactive student forum. The forum, titled "Open Mic with Dean Cully," is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 6 p.m. in the Drewry Room.

"I hear some whisperings from the students sometimes, but this program will give me the opportunity to directly listen and respond to questions and concerns," said Clark. Clark, currently serving his second year at the University of Georgia, is a former dean of the College of Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama. The seasoned professional is an authority on Southern history and culture, civil rights and race relations, as well as media history. Clark is a native of Grady County, Ga.

"Open Mic with Dean Cully" is a joint venture between Clark and the Grady Ambassadors, a select group of students chosen to serve as a bridge between faculty and students. The forum will allow university students, specifically those housed within Grady College, to voice their opinions on topics that are of concern or interest to them.

Students will be able to address Dean Clark directly in a Q&A format. The event is inspired in part by the annual "Open Mic with Mike," a similarly-themed program enabling discussion between university students and President Michael F. Adams.

"The Open Mic event will enable the Grady student body to express any concerns, rave about their program, professor or class, and ask questions," said Karen Andrews, Ambassador adviser and special events/marketing coordinator for Grady College. "I hope this becomes an annual event and that the Grady student body takes full advantage of this opportunity."

"Open Mic with Dean Cully" has been allotted a duration of approximately two hours. Refreshments will be served at the event.

Following Arch Foundation committee meetings, the trustees split into three groups and visited the following Grady College areas: the New Media Institute, the Peabody Awards suite and gallery, the graphics lab, the dean's office and renovated Drewry Room, the photojournalism lab, and broadcast news studios where NewSource 15 and Georgia Gameday are produced.

Grady College faculty members addressed trustees at each stop on the tour. A luncheon, arranged by the President's office, was held on the Grady lawn.
