Dr. Robert Suggs of Alexandria, Virginia, and Prof. Van Kornegay of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina traveled to the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia in May of 1997 to provide hands-on instruction in desk-top publishing.

The trip by Suggs and Kornegay was sponsored by the Cox Center and was the third instructional visit by representatives of the Cox Center to the Marquesas. Similar instruction on desk-top publishing was provided in workshops conducted there by the Center in 1995 and 1996.

During the 1997 trip, Suggs and Kornegay visited a hotel using desk-top publishing to support tourism, College St. Joseph, where students are producing a newspaper called To'au Va'anui (My Road), and Radio Taioha'e, where some editions of a local newspaper have been published.

Suggs and Kornegay did trouble-shooting on hardware and software problems and provided further guidance in the techniques and possibilities of desk-top publishing.
