Biographical Sketches of the American Participants

Mike Cavender is the president and principal of The Cavender Group. He served as director of News and Public Affairs for WGCL-TV, the CBS network affiliate in Atlanta. Before moving to Atlanta, Mr. Cavender was a vice-president of news for the Gannett Corporation at two of its largest broadcast properties.

Rob Daves is director of strategic and news research at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis and director of the newspaper's public opinion polling unit. He is associate editor of the journal Public Opinion Quarterly and is a member of the editorial board of the Newspaper Research Journal.

Lea Donosky is elections 2004 editor at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, coordinating with Washington bureau political reporters, directing an Atlanta-based team of national political reporters and leading Atlanta-based editors responsible for coverage of local and state elections.

Ron Elving is the senior Washington editor for National Public Radio, where he directs coverage of the capital and of national politics. He was previously the political editor for USA Today and for Congressional Quarterly. Ron also writes a regular website column for NPR.

Jeannie Layson is the communications director for Congresswoman Denise L. Majette of Georgia. In 2002, she was the communications director for Majette for Congress, Inc., which was one of the most high-profile races in the nation.

Ann Hollifield is an associate professor and coordinator of the Michael J. Faherty Broadcast Management Laboratory in the Department of Telecommunications, Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communication, University of Georgia.
