Cox Center Scholarship Program

The Cox Center supports students in the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication through scholarships and graduate research assistantships. With Cox Center assistance, students have worked, traveled and studied abroad, participated in Center outreach activities and assisted with daily operation of the Center.

Daphne is working on her master’s degree in journalism from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Daphne is a member of the Graduate and Professional Scholars and Grady Caucus. Daphne’s research interests include female news professionals and how the media perceives them in local vs. national news.

After graduation, Daphne hopes to work in the television broadcast news field. Daphne received her bachelor’s degree from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA where she majored in Mass Communication and minored in Marketing. During her time at the University of West Georgia, she anchored/ produced the university news and served as president of Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority, Inc. Daphne is a native of Barnesville, GA.

Daphne Burden

Jacob Cole is a master’s student concentrating in public relations at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Jacob plans to study crisis communication and social media. He active in the Student Government Association as a Senator for The Graduate School, is a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, and the Grady Graduate Caucus. Jacob is a 2007 graduate of Leadership UGA, a Fellow of the Richard B. Russell Leadership Foundation, and is a former Grady College Ambassador.

In his spare time, Jacob enjoys spending time with his friends and family, jogging, and being active in his church. After graduating, Jacob hopes to become a Naval Public Affairs Officer, and holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Journalism in Public Relations from The University of Georgia.
