This intensive, graduate-level course challenges students to dig deeper into the connections between poverty and health in the South. They read and analyze outstanding nonfiction writing about the interplay of politics, culture and healthcare. Advanced students receive individual and group coaching as they frame and market a major magazine article or newspaper series, then spend the semester researching, writing, and revising this story for publication.
Enrollment is limited to graduate students who successfully completed the JRMC 8350 Health and Medical Journalism taught in Fall 2006. 3 hours credit
The class is a workshop with readings and discussion. No exams.
