The Georgia Association of Broadcasters Board solicited the help of the Grady College of Journalism to find out the opinions of its members on several pertinent issues regarding the group's Annual Winter Institute, which is held each February at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Dr. Alison Alexander, Chairperson of the Telecommunications Department, was asked to conduct a survey of members. She accepted with the caveat that this would be done with the help of Dr. Ann Hollifield, Coordinator of the Faherty Broadcast Management Laboratory and using the help of graduate students within the Grady College.

There were six major findings in the report:

  1. The information provided by GAB to its members is the most important reason for members to belong to the association.
  2. Learning, being a part of GAB, and the sales seminars are the most important reasons to attend the Winter Institute
  3. Available time was the most frequent reason for not attending the Institute
  4. Comparing attendees and non-attendees shows a core of long-term attendees, a target group of near 20% of non-attendees who used to attend, and a significant body of new members who attend rarely or never.
  5. Size does matter: Multiple market station groups are more likely to send representatives to GAB, and stations with between 6 and 50 employees attend the Institute.
