Faherty Laboratory Announces New Research Team Initiative
Graduate students in the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication will have new opportunities to engage in media research through the Faherty Laboratory starting Autumn semester 2000. The Michael J. Faherty Broadcast Management Laboratory will sponsor two research teams of graduate students under the direction of Faherty Coordinators Dwight E. Brooks and C. Ann Hollifield.
The goal of the research teams is to give graduate students more opportunities to practice research and to develop national and international conference papers and publications. Each research team will develop its own research project in the area of media management and programming. Projects will be large enough in scope to allow members of the teams to develop multiple manuscripts from the data.
Facilities support and some limited funding for the research projects will be provided through the Faherty Laboratory. Additional funds will be used to provide support to graduate student travel to conferences for the purpose of presenting team papers. Both doctoral and masters students have been invited to participate in the research teams. Students who join the teams will enroll for one credit of independent research course work.
The expectation is that the teams will develop projects and prepare papers in time for the presentations at Journalism and Mass Communication conferences during the summer of 2001. Participation in the research teams will help graduate students gain experience in research and improve their research and analytical skills while enhancing their professional credentials through conference papers and publications.
