Grady Grads Win Research Awards at AEJMC

A paper written by a 1998 graduate research team as part of the JRMC 8200 graduate management course was judged recently  as the "Top Student Paper."   The award, given by the Radio Television Journalism Division of  the Association for Education of Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), was presented at the organization's recent national conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

Seok Kang, a third year Ph.D. student in telecommunications and George Daniels, second year Ph. D. student and member of the teaching staff of the Faherty Laboratory presented this paper, titled “Going Digital: An Exploratory Study of Nonlinear Editing Technology in Southeastern Television Newsrooms.”   Kang and Daniels co-authored the paper with  Alyson Belatti, and Tanya Auguston, who both recently received master's degrees from the Grady College.

Also at the AEJMC Conference, Daniels won third place in the student competition for the Media Management and Economics Division for his paper “The Relationship Between What Managers Do and How Newsroom Workers Respond in Times of Change.”

Prior to receiving AEJMC honors, Daniels was selected to present at the National Communication Association’s Doctoral Honors Seminar, held at Northwestern University in early August.  Daniels presented “Television Diversity Deals with Civic and Group Action,” a paper he completed during the 1999-2000 school year.
